"I came to Venetia with an idea for a simple, modern gold ring that I wanted to give to my girlfriend as a surprise gift. I was keen to use the gold from a family heirloom in the design. She listened carefully, understood the sentimental value of the heirloom, and made small suggestions to improve the design. I was impressed with how efficient the process was. Within a very short time, Venetia had melted down the old ring, added some new gold, and forged a beautiful, elegant ring with a soft hammer finish. I am thrilled with how it came out - and so is my girlfriend. I especially like the angular surface, which catches the light in different ways, and the subtle differences in textures - delicately scratched on the outside, polished on the inside. As the ring was a 'surprise', I misjudged its size, so a few weeks later my girlfriend and I returned to Venetia to have it resized, which was very simple to do.

It is so refreshing to know that I can actually talk to the jeweller who I will entrust my precious and sentimental pieces to.

A great example of your professional traits became more evident when I commissioned you to make my Sweetheart Brooch. To those who are unaware, the history behind the Sweetheart Brooch goes something like this….back in days of the World Wars, serving members of the armed forces would give their beloved a Sweetheart Brooch as a pledge of their love and that he wanted her to be there on his return from the War. When my husband was sent to Afghanistan last year, he too wanted to carry on this tradition. I actually didn’t want the brooch prior to his departure as we were already married, and opted to have it when he returned safely from active duty!

The Sweetheart Brooch that you made for us has pride of place in my jewellery collection. It is completely exquisite and I will wear it with pride on Anzac Day this year for the very first time. I can’t wait to wear it to an evening event at the War Memorial – that will make it all the more special.

"Venetia is amazing! I was looking to get an engagement ring made in a small time frame, I looked around town for about a month getting high quotes and poor service from Canberra’s bigger names. I then contacted Venetia, barely back from a holiday she went out of her way and met with me at very short notice. She listened closely to what I wanted and we discussed the design possibilities at length before finally coming up with something that would complement both the Sapphire I had sourced, and my fair lady’s hand. She paired the Sapphire with some beautifully cut, ethically sourced diamonds that took the ring to another level and still managed to keep the ring under budget. The crafting, setting and engraving of the ring was done with love and precision as can be seen in the final product, designed and finished in a month and a half!
