A striking example of traditional metalworking technique combined with contemporary design, this handcrafted mokumé gané link necklace features interlocking rings in 18ct yellow gold, 14ct rose gold, and sterling silver. Once the mokumé gané was formed into shape and connected, we etched the surface with acid to reveal the hidden striations and colour variations within. The surface is a gnarly mixture of different coloured golds. Suspended on a 9ct rose gold, fine curb chain. We've made only one of these necklaces.
Mokumé gané is a centuries-old Japanese metalworking technique that layers different precious metals—in this case, yellow gold, rose gold, and sterling silver—then fuses them together under heat and pressure. The layered billet is then carefully manipulated, forged, and shaped to create distinctive patterns.
